
Big Cheese Chris Whalley and Petit Fromage Jill Whalley (above) established Mount Eliza Cheese in 2007.
Chris, originally from Cheshire, worked as an industrial chemist before training as a cheese maker in the UK. Looking for a change of lifestyle,
he moved back to New Zealand in 2006 with his family: New Zealand wife
Jill and children Rebecca and Owen. The family bought 10 acres of land
near Katikati in the Bay of Plenty and Mount Eliza Cheese was established!
At Mount Eliza Cheese, we have created a small artisan creamery where we specialise in making traditional hard-rind cheeses which are handmade in an open vat and then cloth bound, before being matured for a year or longer.
